Recent performances include movement and spoken word showings at 33 Hawley, New Play Readings Series, Smith College, Work in Progress (WIP) SCDT, and Northampton Playwright Lab’s Play by Play series. Mary Beth Brooker makes and performs work for theater, video and installation, and writes plays and short fiction. She is a Visiting Artist in Dance at Mount Holyoke College, and has taught at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Smith College, Hampshire College, Belmont University, and Nashville Ballet’s Professional Training Division. in Choreography and Performance from Smith College. in Dance from Point Park University and an M.F.A. Erin has performed with New Dialect, Visceral Dance Chicago, and Luna Negra Dance Theater, and in work by Jeanine Durning, Jenna Riegel, Joy Davis, Sarah Konner, Barbie Diewald, and others. She is a recipient of the Tennessee Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship and the Gretchen Moran Research Fellowship, and her work has been presented by Nashville Ballet, Smith College, and Tennessee Women’s Theater Project. Mary Beth Brooker and Erin KouweĮrin Kouwe is a creator, dance artist, and educator. They use performance as a means to experiment with strangeness, reflecting back on human tendencies towards absurdity. They have shown work at Lubov Gallery, Center for Performance Research, The School for Contemporary Dance and Thought, Fresh Festival, and been supported by creative residencies at Chez Bushwick, Chashama, The Floor, and University Settlement. They are really good at letting things go and bad at giving things enough time. Leah Fournier and Amelia Heintzelman have been collaborators for nearly a decade. One of her films, “Me in My Bathroom,” was an Official Selection at the 2022 Mobile Dance Film Festival. As of spring 2022, Dana has developed a solo practice of filming, editing, and performing in short, improvised, site adaptive dances on her iPhone. Since graduating in 2017, Dana has collaboratively choreographed and performed in experimental dance theater works as a member of Venus Wheeler Dance Collective and taught contemporary, hip hop, and yoga in various settings, including after school programs and studios. WAX staff members also offer constructive criticism on press kits, artist statements, and project descriptions submitted as a part of the WAXworks application. An involved audience is a supportive audience.įor a nominal fee, artists receive a half hour tech slot and a split bill performance opportunity for work up to 12 minutes in length in addition to the performance, participants receive high quality photo & video documentation of their work. Guided by the WAX staff, audience members are invited to share their reactions and thoughts with the artists in anonymous written feedback. WAXworks is designed to help artists advance their creative process by viewing their work through the objective eyes of a live, enthusiastic audience. There is no audition process and few technical limitations. Any kind of stage work is welcome - we invite dance, theater, music, video, performance art, poetry, comedy, juggling, singing, puppetry, acrobatics, monologues or anything else that can be performed on a stage. WAXworks is an inclusive performance showcase that offers emerging and established artists the opportunity to present their work on a professional stage with substantial and versatile lighting, sound and technical systems.
